Jose Luis Gonzalez
“Ninety Miles 2.0”
Biography
Jose Luis González was born in Habana, Cuba, on September 15, 1952, into a middle-class family. Jose Luis immigrated to Miami, Florida, on November 2, 1960, at the age of 8, with his sister, his father Hilario González Gia, and his mother, Dr. Edilia González Cruz-Álvarez. None of them spoke English, nor did they have any family or friends in the United States.
They spent approximately three months moving from hotel to hotel while his father worked very hard to pay for their food and shelter until they finally found an apartment that was for rent but specified “Not for Blacks, Cubans, or tenants with pets.”
They endured many injustices, but none of that deterred them from pursuing the American dream of “Living in Freedom.”
Jose Luis graduated from Miami Senior High School, where he excelled as an athlete and a student. In 2012, Miami Senior High invited him to join the “Hall of Fame” for his achievements.

He also graduated in 1975 from the University of Miami with a master’s degree in accounting, attending on a football scholarship. Thanks to his football-playing skills, Jose Luis was signed by the professional team, the Oakland Raiders, in 1975.
From 1975 to 1978, Jose Luis played professional American football, representing various teams, including the Philadelphia Bell and the Philadelphia Eagles, from which he eventually retired in September 1978.
In 1978, Jose Luis began his accounting career with Ernst & Ernst, where he learned a great deal. Jose also worked with Deloitte & Touche and Grant Thornton for over a decade. This experience was crucial in helping Jose Luis transition to his next stage. In 1984, Jose Luis became a Certified Public Accountant, leading him to hold CFO positions in various American public and private companies.
His love for the arts led him to become the executive producer of films such as “Shadow Force,” featuring Dirk Benedict, and he also wrote, produced, and directed the movie “The Last Semester” in 1999.
In his current role as a writer, Jose Luis is launching his first book, “Ninety Miles,” which is based on a true story of love during the Cuban revolution, featuring real events and characters from that time.

Ninety Miles 2.0
Based on real events spanning forty years, this story revolves around the relentless struggle of a family in pursuit of freedom: the “Seven Founders” from Fidel Castro’s inner circle and the Cuban Revolutionary Party. It’s an epic adventure driven by a passionate love affair set in pre- and post-revolutionary Cuba in 1959.
The love story is the primary driver of this book. Pepe, the sole survivor from the inner circle who escapes several assassination attempts, is forced to leave his family and his fiancée (Alicia) in Cuba. Alicia, carrying Pepe’s unborn child, conceals her pregnancy to ensure Pepe’s immediate exit to a safer place—the United States. After a harrowing escape to Key West, Pepe receives news of his fiancée’s pregnancy and embarks on a long and perilous journey to save Alicia and their unborn child. Pepe seizes the opportunity to return to Cuba as a CIA agent in an ultra-covert and clandestine operation called “90 Miles.” This operation was launched just before the Bay of Pigs invasion on April 17, 1961. The goal of “90 Miles” was to determine the extent of Castro’s military capabilities, specifically, the nuclear capacity.
The so-called Great Inner Circle of the Seven was a group of men who helped organize and finance the Cuban Revolutionary Party, including the Cuban Revolution. These men provided all the necessary resources for Castro’s revolution and played a decisive role in overthrowing Batista, the island of Cuba’s reigning dictator. Within eighteen months of Castro coming to power, six of the 7 men from the Great Inner Circle had either disappeared or been systematically murdered by unknown assassins.
This story also uncovers the truth about the October 1962 missile crisis. The U.S. government (mainly the Kennedy administration) ignored reports about Castro’s military strengthening. Moreover, high-ranking government officials were aware of and had evidence of the existence of nuclear weapons in Cuba long before the infamous October Missiles and the overflight of the U.S. Air Force U-2 plane.
There are many facets to this story: a tragic love story against the backdrop of the Cuban Revolution, an incredible adventure, a glimpse into a family’s quest for freedom, and a previously unknown part of U.S. history.
